Sidney Charles Thorne

Born 9th Dec 1894 at 69 Friar Street London. 
Mother was Kate Ruby Poole. Father was Charles Thomas Edgar Thorne.

Married at 31 years of age to Amelia Jane Hawkins on the
19th Dec 1925 at Southwark registry office. 

Entered Royal Navy Training Establishment for Boys at age 14. Signing up to the Royal Navy on his 18th birthday in 1912, for a period of 12 years. Leaving early in 1922.

During WWI he was serving on HMS Mantis, a Gunboat. Sidney's Navy records also show that he was a Navy Diver from 1919.

Joined the Mechant Navy. Involved in Salvage work in the North Atlantic 1923, and served in the Royal Marine Police Special Reserve from Sept 1939 to Nov 1941 (H.M dockyard Chatham - rank of Constable), and then was at Admiralty buildings from Nov.1941 to Oct.1945.

Six children... Stan, Joan, Sid, Bob, Les & Bill. 
Died 1954 aged 59.

Charles Thomas Edgar Thorne  
  (Father of above Sidney Charles Thorne).

Born 17th June 1870. Family lived 10 Belham St, Camberwell. Mother was Sarah Ann Parker. Father was George Thorne. Married at 23, to Kate Ruby Poole in 1893. He was a labourer in yeast factory/boilermakers labourer.

Children were Sidney & a younger sister Dolly (b.1898). Dolly married Harry Lee. Two children Leslie & Dora Lee.

1901 census return available for Charles and his family.
Charles died in 1911, aged 41.

George Thorne    (Father of above Charles T. E. Thorne).

Born 1835, Somerset. Father was Thomas Thorne. Married Sarah Ann Parker, 1864, at St Lenoard's Shoreditch.
George is shown in census & certificate entries as Railway ticket collector. Children were:

George Walter Thorne (b.1864)
Alice Maude Thorne (b.1866)
Ernest Thorne (b.1868)
Charles Thorne (b.1870)
Edith Thorne (b.1872)

Census returns after Georges death show his widow
Sarah Ann remarried, and his son Charles in 1881 is residing at the Shoreditch Industrial School (Brentwood) for fatherless children. Alice in 1881 was residing at the Soldiers Daughters Home (To be admitted her father would of had to of been in Crimean war). Ernest had died a month or so before the 1881 census ( taken in April of that year ).
